IEBC 2027 General Election timeline

Every IEBC deadline for the Kenya General Election 2027, from party nomination rules to polling day on 2027-08-10.

  1. 2026-10-15: Parties submit authorised persons and specimen signatures. Political parties submit the names of their authorised person(s) and their specimen signatures. (Political parties)
  2. 2026-09-28 to 2026-10-16: Nomination rules submitted to the Registrar. Parties submit their nomination rules to the Registrar of Political Parties for certification. (Political parties)
  3. 2026-10-30: Party nomination rules certified by the Registrar. Nomination rules must be certified by the Registrar of Political Parties. (Political parties)
  4. 2026-11-06: Certified nomination rules submitted to IEBC. Parties submit their certified nomination rules to the Commission. (Political parties)
  5. 2027-02-10: Public officers resign to contest. Any public officer who intends to contest in the 2027 General Election must resign from public office. (Public officers)
  6. 2027-03-16: Membership lists and primary candidates submitted. Parties submit their membership lists, and the names of candidates in their primaries with the dates and venues of the primaries. (Political parties)
  7. 2027-03-23: Party membership registers certified by the Registrar. Parties submit their membership registers in March for the Registrar to certify. (Political parties)
  8. 2027-03-17 to 2027-04-10: Party primaries (nomination period). Parties hold their primaries and other nominations between 17 March and 10 April. (Political parties)
  9. 2027-04-12: Coalition political party agreements deposited with the Registrar. Parties forming a coalition political party submit their coalition agreement to the Registrar of Political Parties (at least 120 days before the general election). (Political parties)
  10. 2027-05-08: Party primaries concluded and disputes resolved. All party primaries must be concluded and any intra-party disputes resolved. (Political parties)
  11. 2027-05-08: Independent candidates submit names and symbols. Independent candidates must not be members of any registered political party, and submit their names and symbols to the Commission. (Independent candidates)
  12. 2027-05-09: Pre-election coalition agreements submitted to the Registrar. Parties forming a pre-election coalition submit their coalition agreement for confirmation by the Registrar of Political Parties. (Political parties)
  13. 2027-05-10 to 2027-05-20: Party nominees submitted to IEBC. Parties submit the names of their nominees to the Commission. (Political parties)
  14. 2027-05-24: Presidential supporter lists delivered. Presidential aspirants deliver the names, signatures and ID or passport numbers of at least 2,000 registered voters in each of a majority of the counties. (Presidential aspirants)
  15. 2027-05-29 to 2027-06-11: Candidate registration with IEBC. Nominees appear before the Commission for registration, on dates set by the elective seat. (Nominees)
  16. 2027-06-12: Last day to lodge nomination disputes. Disputes arising from nomination must be lodged within 24 hours of occurring, and no later than this date. (Nominees)
  17. 2027-05-29 to 2027-08-07: Campaign period. Campaigns run from 29 May and end 48 hours before Election Day. (All campaigns)
  18. 2027-08-10: Polling day. The 2027 General Election. (Everyone)
